Review by mindleftpants

mindleftpants This was my first show, and it was a magical introduction to the wondrous flow of sound Phish is capable of producing, not to mention the captivating light show by Mr. Kuroda. I'm a young lad, and I used to think I knew a lot about music and live performances. I used to think I knew about psychedelic experiences. This band within 2 sets and an encore completely re-wired my brain. Did some gelled happy juice contribute to this? Of course. But in retrospect, I wouldn't have had it any other way. Everyone to whom I spoke to start the show was thrilled to hear it was my first, and I felt very comforted by the common "Have a Great Show!" It is important to note I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into with regards to both Phish and the copious amounts of plastic, but my friend assured me of the euphoric power of both. I was ready.

SYSF was a very potent message for me to hear for my very first song and I started trusting the band to take me wherever they wanted. Most of Set 1 was a blur, but The Squirming Coil was a beautiful ending as the sun set.

Then, darkness fell. The end of Axilla II both amused and horrified me and I was already suspended in space before 2001 even started. Getting funked out into Light brought me back to a similar feeling from the start with SYSF and this turned into one of my most favorite jams from all of 2022. Mountains in the Mist was so soothing, and Meat brought back the funk... and the psychedelia. Golgi->Slave->Cavern sold me to come back the next night, but 46 Days -> Tube solidified my new obsession.

In summary, as biased as one can be about their first show, I still think this show deserves a higher rating than a 3.5, and I left this show feeling blessed and bathed in sound.
