The My Friend ending did not contain the "Myfe" lyric.  Brother was played for the first time since July 28, 1998 (155 shows) after which Trey commented, “That song is all about the ending.”

Review by Tbone

Tbone I recall the stars being aligned for this one. I had just set myself up in an apartment within walking distance to/from Fiddler's Green. Therefore my apartment turned into the gathering place for our crew.

The show was pretty good with Piper being the big highlight for me.

What happened at set break I will never forget. My friend got us a couple of beers and mentioned that last call was coming up so i decided to get two more so that we had something to sip on for the second set. I decided to go upstairs to the concessions behind the top of the lawn. As I'm wrapping up my transaction Phish comes out and starts the second set off with Piper. There is a crowd of people heading to the stairs that I came up on and so it is crowded all of a sudden. I look to my right and see there is a entrance into the top of the lawn so in order to avoid the crowds I head that way. I go through the opening and there I am on the top of the lawn smack dab in the middle looking right down to the stage. I start traversing down the lawn to meet with my friends and while navigating through the crowd I loose my footing and start sliding down the lawn on my ass with both beers in my hands. People are getting out of the way for me and I make it all the way to the cross walk that separates the lawn from the seating. I stand up with about 3/4 of one beer left and 1/2 of the other with a lawn towel wrapped around my lower body. People are kind of standing around scratching their heads wondering what the hell just went by them. I took the blanket off and walked to meet up with my friends back on the lawn. When I reach the crew I find my friend and give him a 1/2 full beer. I told him "sorry I didn't bring you a full beer but the craziest thing just happened to me" He starts cracking up and says "Dude, I saw the whole thing."

Oh the memories, another classic show with friends but I will never forget sliding down that lawn like that.

Review by A_Buddhist_Prodigy

A_Buddhist_Prodigy I listened to this show yesterday on the anniversary of being at this show from my office, which overlooks Fiddler's Green. It was a really cool moment to look down on the lawn remembering myself there 17 years earlier. I didn't have a clue that I would be working right next to the venue way back then! The Piper through Mango is top notch stuff, really great groove. Trey's effects in Piper was so stupendous. It was special to get the Brother.

Review by westbrook

westbrook This is one of my preferred outings of 2000 and I'd put this second set up with just about any from the year outside of Fukuoka II. Piper is the highlight of the show and just might be my favorite of the year and it's followed by other notable performances in Gumbo, Ghost, Mango, and Brother. The first set also has a nice mix of songs with Limb, SOAM, and Taste getting the job done in the Type I jam department. Cavern has some alternate lyrics "I snatched Rick's fork to scrape it off and gave it back to Tom".

Review by roybelly

roybelly I might have over-rated, but this was my first show....I told a pack of lies to miss a graduate class I was taking at the time. The second set sealed the deal for me....so many of my favorites at my first show. I was hooked.

Review by hambone024

hambone024 This second set is one of the best I've seen of my 38 shows, spanning 1.0, 2.0, 3.0. Just incredible. The Piper > Gumbo > Ghost > The Mango Song stacks up against just about any 4 song sequence I've heard.

Love the "mellow" Piper jam, with a guitar effect I've only heard Trey use at one other show, the 7/12/2000 Piper. That one was bonkers, this one was minimalist perfection. As if the former set up the latter.

That slow, funked out Gumbo turned me on to slow, funked out Phish.

The Ghost is a beast. Mike really drives this.

Great to get a Brother.

And the YEM is solid.

Only down point of the set is Heavy Things, and it was kind of a needed breather after 56 minutes of jam and that ripping Mango.

As of this writing, the ratings are in the 3.8 range. Seems low.

Review by Ravinus

Ravinus I enjoyed this show. The setlist is great and everything was played really well. For me, My Friend, SOAM, and the entire second set were the highlights. The Brother bust out was really sweet. I remember the sound in this place being noticeably low though, which kind of took away from the overall experience and drops the rating from 4 to 3 stars for someone that attended the show. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars if you have a good recording.

Review by spreaditround

spreaditround SET 1: Sample in a Jar: Good energy out of the gate.

My Friend, My Friend: Cool little jam tacked on to the end.

Beauty of My Dreams > Standard

My Soul: Slower and jazzy intro. This version rocks.

Limb By Limb: Trey absolutely CRUSHES this, absolutely a highlight. Just smokes!

Dirt: Good place for a breather after that Limb face melter.

Split Open and Melt: Don’t sleep on this version, it flies under the radar but is a rocking version. I was blown away by it at the show in the moment.

Horn: Had forgot how badly Trey struggles on this one, he has a multiple Marty McFly disappearing hand moments. Ouch. They also mess up the vocals at the end.

Taste: Standard.

Cavern: Standard.

First set summary: Good flow and energy throughout. Limb by Limb and SOAMelt have replay value for sure. Solid set.

SET 2: Piper: Check out the tension they build at 5:37 and then just explode at 5:58. I LOVE IT, makes me smile every time I hear it and it’s something I want to hear in every Piper I have heard since this night. The effects that start at 10:13 – some of my favorite Phish happens from here through the end, just incredible. >

Gumbo: I love the chill theme they get on to at 5:45 and ride that through 7:25. 12:17 Trey power chords and Fishman egging him on for harder, faster, louder. Epic. >

Ghost: This Ghost is no slouch, very underrated. Pretty aggressive version, especially for the time period. Total face melter right here! >

The Mango Song: Nicely jammed.

Heavy Things: Groaned then and groaned just now. Really long pause after this before they start up Brother…

Brother: Huge bustout, 153 gap since last played at 7.28.98

You Enjoy Myself

ENCORE: Loving Cup

[1] No "Myfe" ending.

The My Friend ending did not contain the "Myfe" lyric. Brother was played for the first time since July 28, 1998 (153 shows) after which Trey commented, “That song is all about the ending.”

Review by mhirstm75

mhirstm75 Don't sleep on this show. The 2nd set alone is worth the admission price. 1st set has some nice work in the Melt, LCL, and Taste with a typicallyy rocmitb Cavern taking us to the set break. I remember being anxious for the 2nd set to bring the heat, as the first set left me needing more. And, the second set does NOT disappoint.
Piper>Gumbo>Ghost>Mango is phenomenal Phish that is as good a four-song stretch that I be seen before or since. The Heavy Things made my girlfriend and friends smile. It rocked. Yeah, it's catchy as shit. Sue me. I dig it. The brother bust out is nice. I have seen only one other Brother, back at Sandstone '98. YEM is the quintessential Phish song and it will always be welcome. Loving Cup sends on out merry way on a big rockin note.
Second set is where it's at. You need to hear it.

Review by The__Van

The__Van Oh yeah this was a good one.

Sample is a great opener any night and this is no exception. MFMF is played well and even has a cool little spacey outro in lieu of Myfe. Beauty and My Soul are played well enough as is LxL. Nothing too memorable so far. Dirt's placement in the set is good after a bunch of upbeat tunes. SOAMelt is the usual type 1 affair but it's got good intensity. Horn cools down and Taste and Cavern bring the set to a thrilling conclusion. Both played well.

Piper blows out of the gate with furiousness before transitioning into up-tempo space funk. Trey puts on this "electronic piping" effect through his keyboard and lays down some very solid licks. Really cool version. Gumbo starts up the second Piper fades out and this is also taken out for walk. The jam stays in the Gumbo theme for awhile then moves to a quieter groove. Very laid back, eventually working it's way to a little peak. Ghost is fairly standard but stays rocking the whole time. Mango gets a bit stretched out but nothing like 9/17. Trey kills it in Heavy Things. He's really feeling that melodic solo. Brother is busted out and SMOOOOKES! YEM wraps up the set with a nice little bow. Loving Cup is a fitting encore.

Piper > Gumbo > Ghost is the big highlight and Brother is a good follow up. Good show overall.

Review by ob1trey

ob1trey Solid show, no doubt. As a life long Coloradan I had seen my fair of shows at Fiddler's Green. The place always had a bad rap for poor sound, early curfew. I did see a stinker of a show there once. Im looking at you Pearl Jam, you all were terrible and I didnt realize it until I saw Phish there. The quality of sound output, im not talking musicianship or even comparing PJ to Phish, no comparison, its the way PJ approached the show to the way Phish did. Phish gave a shit about the quality of the sound.

Anyway, it was fun, my wife and I just found out she was expecting and so our daughter got 3 shows, denver and vegas in utero! Thanks for reading!
