westbrook This being a one-set festival performance, there are predictably no big jams to be heard, but a high quality AUD and some fine playing make it a decent listen. 2001 > DwD is the highlight to me, with the former being as laid-back and funky as you'd expect given the date and the latter a sizzling, Type I, complete version. This show also gives you the opportunity to listen to a YEM without feeling the guilt of skipping the vocal jam, although there is no real peak before sliding into A Day in the Life. Compared to most full two-set shows, this doesn't offer anything you haven't heard before, but compared to anything else you could be listening to, I think it stands up quite well.

Review by Capricornholio

Capricornholio The dreaded "festival set!" Just under 90 minutes, tightly played versions of "the hits" with little to no exploration.

A 10-minute 2001 is probably the only real highlight, however tightly played standard versions of Stash, Disease, Limb and YEM are always fun to listen to. This would probably be a good tape for introducing someone to live Phish, but not one you are going to go back to over and over again.

batleon Part of my full run through of Summer '98, see here

Oh yikes, when I started this I did not realize there was a festival set to take into consideration. In terms of my initial hypothesis (that Summer '98 is just as strong as Fall '97) I did not think this run would be watered down with a festival set. There isn't anything to use as a basis for comparison here (there was certainly no festival set in Fall of '97) so I have to just wing it here.

So.. this is a festival set. It is pretty plain with some expected songs played (Sample, DwD) and nothing too wild or outlandish. The YEM has nothing on the previous show's version, but is straightforward and still nice to listen to, and has no vocal jam. The highlight here is the 2001 which would still hold up just fine if it was in a regular two set show.

And that's it. Again, nothing to see here. I certainly don't feel the need to ever revisit this again, though if someone fired up this 2001 I wouldn't turn my nose up at it (it's still a '98 2001 after all). Hopefully this is our last interruption, and we can get back to the business of proving my theory about this portion of the band's career.
