Opening up Phish in 2025 was a great version of Sand, truly one of the highlights of the entire show. The band did not sound rusty in the slightest, and after all why would they. YEMSG was only a few weeks ago.

Mull might have gotten its most solid version to date. Hard to not like that when it gets jammy. Ghost was played perfectly and I thought Evolve and Antelope were very well placed. Solid first set.

2nd set turns up the heat, getting right to work with SYSF and a fantastic Cities. there really isn't a weak song in here in this set - Strong playing throughout. The Mikes Groove was all like butter, the weekapaug seemed slower and funkier than usual. The Twist that followed however was downright sick, highlighting the show. You'll want to listen to that thing.

We weren't done though, a double encore featuring My Sweet One and then a nasty Carini that took us to another dimension.

All in all a very strong 1st show here in mexico. gone are the days of lackluster 1 setters in mexico, we got right down to the goods tonight. The good news? Even though this was a good show - its going to be topped over these next few nights - for sure. The band is too good right now.

Night 1 in Mexico, and night 1 in 2025! Hopes are high after MSG. The vibes are always nice at the beach, and the boys are ready to rip.

We start out the show with an excellent Sand. It’s extremely funky right off the bat, with Mike and Trey leading most of the groove. Everything sounds so fluid and natural, the pocket here is undeniable. Amazing start to the show. Theme is very solid, and has a really fun jam. Great playing from everyone here, especially Page and Trey. Free is above average, and has some great Mike material. Our Mike song for the night is Mull, the first one since Uncasville, and this one starts out pretty lackluster, but snowballs into a pretty nice lil jam. Trey and Page are the highlights here, the interplay between them is amazing here. Next, we get my least favorite Phish tune, Kill Devil Falls, which never fails to shit on that statement. I hate disliking a song that gets better and better every time I hear it. Anyway, this one is pretty solid. It’s a nice jam, if not a little average. Fish is definitely the highlight in this one. Ghost has a nice slow start, and is very hazy in the first half, but slowly melts into a fiery jam. Pretty great stuff, especially for the first set. Evolve is next, and it is a very pretty rendition. Mike’s playing here is surprisingly versatile, but Page dominates this one, like he usually does. Antelope starts out strong, with some great Mike material right from the get-go, and he continues to show off for the rest of the jam. The climax is one of the most hectic I’ve heard. The energy in this Antelope is amazing; finishing the 1st set is truly the best placement for this tune. Pure gold.

Set Your Soul Free starts off our 2nd set, and the jam is a little basic, but has some great energy to start the set. Page and Trey have some great interplay. Beach vibes! > Cities. This one is kind of perfect. The sounds here are so fun, and Fish’s groove is so tight. The jam starts out pretty mellow, but gets really intense. Trey absolutely rips in the last 6 minutes or so. I really like this one > a super chill Light. The jam is led mostly by Trey and Page, and the atmosphere built here is just so beautiful. Lots of happiness coming from these guys > Mike’s Song, which has so much sauce, it’s kind of criminal. Don’t let the time fool you; it’s super funky, and super angsty, and has a lot of cool material in such a short time > I Am Hydrogen, which is played to perfection. Resort music right here > a slow, spunky Weekapaug. I’ve never heard a Weekapaug like this before, and I am all for it, it’s funky to no end. Everyone is so dialed in, and there’s no flubber in the material, it’s all very deliberate and unique; nothing but pure pocket. Great stuff here, probably one of the best. Twist is a Mike fest through and through, I mean holy shit, that is one smooth Cactus. This jam is very hazy, and creates a very strange soundscape early on, but it rages heavy near the end > a standard Number Line. Nothing too special here, but it’s a nice set closer.

My Sweet One is average, but always welcome. Carini is nothing but straight fire, amazing energy to end a show.

This run is off to a great start, it gives me hope for the rest of the year. Heavy jamming here. Check out Sand, Antelope, Cities > Light, Mike’s Groove, and Twist.
