Mockingbird included a Jeopardy! theme tease from Page. The intro to Antelope featured Old McDonald Had a Farm and Yakety Sax (the Benny Hill Show theme) teases. No Dogs Allowed was played for the first time since August 4, 1988 (132 shows) and was dedicated to Dave. I Didn't Know through Antelope featured Dave Grippo and Russ Remington on saxophone. I Didn't Know also featured Fish on trombone. SOAM had to be started a second time after the lights went out before the a cappella segment of the first attempt. Hood contained an Odd Couple theme tease from the horns. This was the first known performance of In a Hole, which included a tease of the Close Encounters of the Third Kind theme.

Phenomenal sound on this recording! Bright mix with lots of Mike! I really enjoy hearing more of the crowd mixed with these SBD recordings.
Story-less Harpua kicks things off and segues into Bundle of Joy, reminiscent of some the early versions from ‘87. Beautiful first set with nice flow and great playing!
Set 2 opens with I Didn’t Know. Fishman’s amateur trombone playing is really apparent when Grippo and Remington step up to the plate. Another great set of music with 2/3 of what would become the GCH. The debut of ‘In a Hole’ was a nice treat!
The first No Dogs Allowed in over a year starts off Set 3. This one differs from the previous versions as there’s no longer the second half of Divided Sky attached. The song itself is also more polished. Set 3 is more like an encore as it’s pretty short overall.
I absolutely love this show! It’s definitely one of my favorites from ‘89. Probably one of the most widely circulated shows throughout the years from 1989. It’s certainly been in my collection for as long as I’ve been listening to the band.

Other reasons to pick up the show include the Harpua opener which, after the second chorus immediately cuts to Bundle Of Joy, and then right into Forbin. YEM has some fire, and Reba takes a leisurely pace as opposed to the breakneck meters found a decade later.
My favorite moment is at the end of the show when Trey, while introducing the horns, decides to rib The Jonny B Fishman Jazz Ensemble and their move from one bar to a Radisson hotel bar with 25 TVs on the wall. I just love to hear them give each other s#!t in the old days.
This is a great 80s show to pick up.
