Way cool show. Thanks to the Rodgers crew for hosting, all the MSM phishers were in the house for this show & the boys played a good one. Lot's of cheering & singing along, as the tape tells - maybe it's the venue. Highlights include a super sweet Lawnboy & as I recall a stellar Antelope to close out set 1. w/ Trey wailing like crazy. I was dancing hard in the entrance to one of the tunnels, apparently there was a light above me & all my buddies could see me clear across the theatre, we laughed about it later how I was dancing so hard & running like a skinny Antelope.
I felt they really peaked w/ Antelope & picked up where they left off in set 2 w/ 2001/Sample/Rift/Mike's (stupid girls soccer team, sorry girls) >Mikes/ Fluffhead! PR was ok, don't remember the Hood but I bet it rocked. I recall the Long Time being awesome, and how can you not love a good old Rocky Top encore? This show left a permagrin, and I definitely wore this tape out from overplay.

The energy turned up a bit on this second show of the tour compared to the tour debut. A strong opening CDT leads things off. Horn and Sparkle follow before getting to DWD, which was still pretty young. This version shows the band just starting to stretch the tune out a bit and it’s fun to hear. Next we get the 2nd version of Guyute, which is a solid take but seems a bit less polished than its debut the previous night.

Fee, It’s Ice, and Lawn Boy are up next, leading to the set-closing Antelope. And what an Antelope it is! This version builds like the best of them, which has some interesting playing from Page who is slamming on the keys while Trey is just wailing. It’s an intense version, with some chaotic moments, that ends the set on a high note.

Opening Set II with a couple of quick tunes - 2001, Sample, and Rift - that are all solidly played, although they’re fairly unremarkable.

Next is Mike’s, and this is where the show really takes off. The Mike’s is short but sandwiches Simple. The Mike’s > Simple > Mike’s sequence shows up several times this tour. This is such an interesting evolutionary part of Simple’s history as it grew into its own entity, even leading to one of the big jams of Fall ‘94, taking place a few weeks later on 11.16.94.

It’s nice to get a Hydrogen here, something that was lost once Mike’s > Simple became so commonplace without the return to Mike’s as we got here. And then comes the Weekapaug Groove, which is arguably the highlight of the show. Page is very active in the initial jam here, banging away on the piano. Things then quiet down for a bit, and the band builds it back up nicely leading into the finish. This is a great version, worthy of several listens.

With Fluffhead, Hood and Suzy in the 4th quarter, the set ends very nicely. All 3 are played quite well and the band is clearly on. The Hood in particular is a worthy listen as it’s a lovely, exploratory version.

Overall, this is a very solid show with numerous tunes that are worth repeated listens, particularly the Antelope, Weekapaug and the Hood. Now that I’ve listened to the first four shows of this tour in their entirety, this show is the strongest to my ears.

This is a molasses-paced 2001. It works, though.

This was the second show of the fall tour and they clearly got the kinks in Simple ironed out during their time off. It's all grown up here... none of the goofiness of earlier versions. Nice vocal outro gives way to an aggressive ending to Mike's.

Weekapaug and Fluffhead follow in short order, making the middle chunk of this second set and absolute monster.

Had no idea they played my hometown. If only I was a phan when I was 6.
