Review by westbrook

westbrook I view the last four dates of the Fall Tour as a group of uneven shows without much flow, partially due to so many Farmhouse songs being shoehorned into the setlists. There are a few standout jams but there are also some jams that are just long. This show does a better job of sustaining momentum than 10/8 and 10/10 to be sure.

The first set is lengthy but holds together well as a whole with high points in Bowie and Fluffhead interspersed among standard first set fare. Bowie goes deep early and the Arrival in Fluffhead soars expectedly for a version from this period.

Some of that unevenness appears at the beginning of the second set where Tube is the only notable performance through the first four songs. It sounds like Trey and Fishman are wrestling over the tempo in Heavy Things as Trey sets his loop slower than the beat Fish comes in with, and then later in BOTT Fishman plays extra slowly to get back at Trey.

Mike's > McGrupp, Caspian > Golgi > Weekapaug is the surefire highlight. Even though Golgi is a bit superfluous, it's one of the few extended sequences from these shows that I return to for some uniquely '99 playing. The ambiance at the end of Mike's sounds close to a tease of the "pre-Nirvana" section of YEM.

Hydrogen's surprise placement in the encore is a treat to close the show.

Review by Bob_Loblaw

Bob_Loblaw This is really close to a 4 star show....But not quite.

The first set starts of pretty normal and standard, until Bowie kicks in. Which picks up the pace very slowly with some bomb dropping effects by Trey toward the end. Possum and Jibbo are good solid versions. Fluffhead is very strong despite some flub at certain parts.

Boogie starts off as a pretty straight forward version. Back On The Train is a cool extra slow version. Mike's song kicks in and has a really great funk section in the middle. Mcgrupp has to be one of the best post 94 versions I've heard, with the mid section being filled with beautiful, churning, and at time intense playing. Caspian has been known to be a 2nd set killer. But this version is extremely noteworthy and strong, and the Trey loop at the end perfectly compliments the song. The big highlight of this show has to be Weekapaug. It caps off the set starting with a nice Jungle Groove with Mike on fire. It builds into some huge peaks with everyone completely linked together, fantastic version.

Standard encore with a BIG exception of Hydrogen very oddly being sandwiched between two songs outside of Mike's Groove.

Overall quite a strong show. it just does not have enough of "IT" to hit those lofty bells other shows hit.

Review by spreaditround

spreaditround SET 1: NICU: Standard >

My Soul: First and only version on the tour:

Dirt: Standard:

David Bowie: Solid Bowie with some length, seems underrated.

Frankie Says: Love this tune, never understood why it never got more attention. Played twice on this tour. >

Possum, When the Circus Comes, Gotta Jibboo, Fluffhead: Tell you what, if I am at a show – pretty happy with this selection deep in the first set. Pretty doggone good!!!

SET 2: Boogie On Reggae Woman, Heavy Things: Standard, don’t like HT in this slot.

Tube: Just another sick ’99 Tube.

Back on the Train: Intro played intentionally slow >

Mike's Song: Boring as far as I am concerned but YMMV >

McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters: Absolutely fantastic and a show highlight. Jamcharts worthy for sure!

Prince Caspian: Absolutely smoked, one of my favorites! >

Golgi Apparatus: Standard >

Weekapaug Groove: Solid groove, would revisit.

ENCORE: Rocky Top > I Am Hydrogen > Julius: Well, that was interesting! See show notes for the Hydro uniqueness in this slot! Julius was a bit sloppy, Trey cut off Fishman’s drum part at one point.

Second set summary: Pretty good stuff. Tube, McGrupp, Caspian, and Weekapuag for sure I would/will revisit. This show on paper has a bunch of heavy hitters but doesn’t quite live up to what you think it might be capable of, hope that makes sense. Damn good show though all things considered. The next three nights have a consistent downslide from here thought. IMHO.
