Stash is an excellent high-energy opener and the rest of the set follows suit. Foam has a great outro jam. Longer than average pause in Divided Sky, Hello My Baby sounds nice with minimal crowd yelling (unmic'd).

Set two has a short 2001 with awesome segue in to Maze. The maze keeps the high energy feel of this show going, peaking hard. Suzy has some very cool and well executed teases as well as a very unique outro. The HYHU Fish antics are great. Lope again takes us to our high peaky place. Contact has a bit of extra love in the funky breakdown, Page adds a lot of flavor here... eventually a very abrupt segue in to BBFCFM. Coil is excellent and the outro is just over 5min, pure beauty from Page.

SET 1: Stash: Love that they open the show with a big jam tune. Only 19 times has Stash opened a show in the total 437 that it has been played, so just 4% of the time!

Dinner and a Movie > Bouncing Around the Room > Foam, I Didn't Know, Divided Sky, Guyute, Hello My Baby, Sample in a Jar? The rest of the set is solid yet unspectacular, nothing really stood out to me or grabbed me.

SET 2: Also Sprach Zarathustra: Rock solid out of the gate, obviously cannot go wrong with this one. >

Maze: Nice, spacy intro here. Sinister. This is a rager folks.

Suzy Greenberg: Bad placement. Trey blows some lyrics. Cool teases though. >

Uncle Pen: Placement issues getting worse as the set wears on.

Free: Wow, this set is essentially sacked at this point.

Hold Your Head Up > Wind Beneath My Wings > Hold Your Head Up: LOL. I want some clarity on Fish comments before this started up. Something like – We have a man I want to make a special dedication to. It’s time after twelve years in this band that I need to come clean. I am not a creation of my own will. I am a creation of this mans will. I am everything that I am and everything that I have done is because of his operation of his streams of my puppet being. At the end Trey, says Henrietta, Henrietta ladies and gentlemen, and his father Bruce Hampton. Page, that was a touching moment. Trey, kind of hard for me to get going again because I am still wiping the tears from my eyes.” So, someone please hit me up and tell me what was the connection with Col. Bruce on this evening?

ENCORE: The Squirming Coil

Summary: Odd show. They had two days off between Hampton and this night. You would think they would be ready to roll and blow the roof off. Quite the opposite. There is not one tune in this show that has replay value IMHO. Plenty of solid playing but nothing to revisit. The Tuesday night blah’s?

Several shows before the legendary month of December ‘95, I was curious to see why this show seems overlooked and whether it was potentially underrated.

The show-opening Stash is certainly a nice start. While nothing close to the magnificent version a few weeks back, on 11.14.95, this is an energetic and unexpected way to open a show. For those keeping count, Stash has opened shows only seven times so it’s a fairly rare treat and this version make me wish they did it more often. (Another underrated Stash-opening show is 7.22.15, which remains one of my favorite shows from that fantastic tour.)

Dinner and a Movie follows. Although this was a bust out earlier in the tour, by this point in their career this tune had already become a rarity so this was nice to hear. After BATR, the band treats us to Foam, which is a solid and welcome take.

Other highlights of the first set include an excellent Divided Sky, which has a nice jam in the latter few minutes and it seems like the band really gels here. This is followed directly by Guyute, solidly played.

A brief 2001 opens Set II, leading into an awesome Maze. Much of the rest of the set is well-played and fun. Additional highlights include an energetic Suzy, Free, and a mid-set Antelope. I really like a lot of versions of Free from this era as the band was consistently stretching the tune out. This is a typical version for the era, which is to say it’s excellent and worthy of a listen. There are, however, more interesting versions out there from this time (e.g., 6.26.95 and 11.22.95).

Overall, this is a quality show that is likely overlooked due to the many great shows to follow the next month, plus it lacks any big jams that occurred at many of the shows from this tour. However, there are numerous highlights, enough to warrant labeling this show underrated and worth checking out.

Well this show is super underrated, my second show & the one that caught me & caught me for good!
The Stash opener was great. Dinner & a Movie, Foam & especially Guyute were highlights of the first set. I lost my shit during the Guyute & that was amazing! (but alas, thats a story for another time!)....But, that was the moment I fell in love with the music & haven't turned back.
Also Sparch > Maze was really good. look at the rest of the second set above & I think that pretty much says it all. Lots of quotes & teases. Hilarious Fishman interlude singing Wind Beneath My Wings to Col. Bruce Hampton....Well, there it is folks...The playing was tight. A really great show in outta the way Knoxville, TN. I'd try to score a copy of this show & give it a chance! Peace Guys! -kz
