i feel that a lot of these early shows, pre '93, really lacked "type 2" jamming, so their strenght usually lies in tight/precise playing, energy, and those beautiful old school set lists. judging by some comments made by trey through out the show, this room must sond phenomenal. they played a large number of their more intricate songs.

tmwsiy/avenu/tmwsiy really gets this one started out nicely. golgi gets the traditional rock and roll thing going before a flawless reba. trey has some stellar playing on this one. you gotta love these old landlady's. once again, check out trey here before they plop into a lovely bathtub gin. there is some nice playing here, but this song was still a couple of years away from being a full on monster. the curtain sounds really nice, another nod to the sound quality of the venue. the biggest nod of the night, verbal and song selection wise, is an exceptional forbin's bird. the whole band is in sync on this one. in fact, if i have a new fan and i want to play them a forbin's, i usually grab this one. oh kee/suzy is nice rocking, and the band really drives this antelope jam to a fiery climax.

llama really gets the second set rocking from the get go. page has some nice licks, especially if you listen to how he plays under trey. the next three songs are really well played, but they are pretty straight forward. i feel that melt, like bt gin, was still a couple of years away from being an absolute show stopper, but this one really gifts this set a lift. they have a pretty nice loose melt jam. magilla is a welcome addition, and i love the way it works into a ripping buried alive. coil is nice, but i feel it kills the momentum a bit. although, the cavern, yem closer wails. the final nod to a fine sounding room is well executed by all 4 memebers. great early 90's take of a phish classic. dont miss the encore either. manteca is great fun and possum really nails this one home. this is a pretty non stop show, from start to finish. also, almost every song played is a "near perfect" rendition. this is one of those shows that is great to drop on new fans, but it can be appreciated by someone with 100 shows under that belt. i must say, this is probably my favorite show from '90 to '92 that does not feature a mike's song.

Its funny how on the audio recording, their voices in the second set sound nothing like they normally do. Its almost like listening to Phish, but someone else is singing the lyrics.

A perfect first set, which is better than the second IMHO. Soft opener FTW!

Was living in Vail at the time and was suppose to attend the originally scheduled gig for that night at the Marriott. Opted to work instead!

Another fantastic Multi-track recording from Mike Grace. Not sure what’s up with Set 2 on ReListen but the pitch is sharp causing the vocals to sound like The Chipmunks. I checked phish.in as well and the speed was also off for Set 2. I don’t remember my DAT copies for this show having any pitch issues. I’ll have to check the shn’s on my hard drive.

I spun this show for quite a few people back in the day. Set 1 has a great setlist. I love how Fish gives a tough guy “‘Sup!” before the band melts into TMWSIY. Reba has a decent jam section. Landlady and Gin make for an interesting pairing while The Curtain and Rocky Top make for somewhat of an odd pairing but they make it work. After Rocky Top Trey remarks on the great acoustics of the room, saying it was “the ideal situation with the rugs on the walls.” He then dedicates Forbin to Mike Lynch of the Telluride Contingent. Solid version of Forbin>Mockingbird. Mockingbird is impeccable. Fiery Antelope to round out the first half.

Set 2 kicks off with a rippin’ Llama. A beautiful Sky follows. Strong version of Melt. Magilla>Buried Alivework well together. Solid YEM with a fun VJ to close out the set. “Stick it in your back!” lol A short but sweet Manteca starts off the encore and segues smoothly into Possum. Possum has some Manteca teasing during the intro. Scorching jam with a fun Complete Stop signal.
