This performance was on the final night of New Orleans’ annual Mardi Gras celebration. Page teased Manteca at the end of Fee. The Horse and the beginning of My Friend featured Trey on acoustic guitar. During I Didn't Know, Trey introduced Fish as "Henrietta, Tubbs, Showboat Gertrude, The Little Friar, The Little Beast Boy... Madonna's Sister" and Fish played the Madonna washboard while Trey and Mike loaded Mardi Gras beads on his head. Page teased the theme from Speed Racer in Lizards. During YEM, Phish sang "Water your team in a beehive I'm a-sent you" alternate lyrics. It’s My Life (Bruce "Sunpie" Barnes), Loup Garou (Bruce "Sunpie" Barnes) and Choo Choo Ch’ Boogie (Louis Jordan) were all Phish debuts and featured Barnes on washboard, harp, and lead vocals. Amazing Grace was performed without microphones.

Review by SplitOpenAndMule

SplitOpenAndMule The above review isn't wrong, but it does miss what I thought was one of the best Rebas I've heard them play up to this point. It builds slowly and peaks for a long time. The whistling is totally botched but the jam is where it's at. I really like both the Stash and Tweezer jams too. I also agree that the Sunpie sit-in is boring after Phish, but taken out of context, they are three pretty cool songs in their own right, and I can see why Phish wanted to play them, even if they're no Phish songs. At the end of a sick and sloppy night, at least check out the Reba.

Review by DollarBill

DollarBill After a couple days off I was hoping to hear a stellar show, but it's Fat Tuesday and the boys are hung over and sick. Trey must have caught whatever Fish had in Florida because he can't sing very well. This was the 21st show of the tour and their fourth career show at Tipitina's. The recording also has its problems as there are definitely cassette generations with speed problems and cuts here and there.

First set starts off ok with a good Buried Alive and a good Poor Heart which still has the extra solo section before the last verse. Stash was good. Reba had some spots and the whistling part was a half step off making the ending really weird. Sparkle was much more controlled tonight. Ice was ok and had some rough spots toward the end. The recording has slowed down by now to put them in tune. Fee was pretty good and afterwards this is where Trey mentions that he can't sing. ATR was good; I guess they can still play anyway. Chalk Dust was rocking. The Horse was completely cut off of the recording, so we cut right into the beginning of Silent which was just ok, nothing great. IDK brings Fish out for some washboard. Trey asks if anyone else is as hung over today before a sloppy Bowie to end a tired and sloppy first set.

I wish I could say it got better, but instead, second set starts off with a sloppy My Friend all the way through. This continues through Pen and even into Tweezer and Lizards. Tweezer had some feedback problems, but the jam was ok. They kept teasing something so familiar, but I can't quite figure out what it was? Trey also has problems singing Lizards. Llama was rocking and kind of a highlight on this dull night. YEM was ok, maybe a few off spots, but the jam was fine, complete with beehive lyrics. HYHU brings Fish back out, who also still sounds sick, for a fast Love You. Then the most interesting part of the show happens because we have a special guest on stage. The next three songs are ok, but boring after listening to Phish. They pretty much learn the songs on the fly so they are not that great over all, but fun anyways. Hood was ok, although a little run down and sick sounding. Grace was also completely cut from the recording. Oh well, this was another tired and sloppy set.

Golgi was reasonably well played to try to put some last minute life into this show. Tweeprise follows as expected and it sounds like the boys are happy to be done for the night.

Maybe tomorrow's show will be better with a renewed energy?
