Review by Lemuria

Lemuria Nobody ever reviews soundchecks, but this one's a keeper - fun, long, and relatively continuous - and recordings do circulate, albeit lightly. This isn't a few times through part of a tune while lots of equipment gets tweaked, and it isn't the band jamming for awhile while the house PA gets adjusted. This is the band, with the horns, screwing around for ~25 minutes, with bits of looseness and randomness reminiscent of 2/20/93.

Review by Bob_Loblaw

Bob_Loblaw Pretty middle of the road show as far as the Giant Country Horns tour goes. But there's some good stuff in there.

The opening trio of songs are essentially a building peak in CDT that recedes during Coil and sets the stage for Buried Alive when the horns kick in. Gin is great Landlady is a lock song at this point with horns so no surprise there that it's solid. Cavern is sloppy but they get it together. Tela, YEM is a fantastic end note to this set and as expected both are well played.

Possum kicks things off on a high note much like the opening two songs from set 1. There's something about this Guelah that just gives the feeling of the guys savoring this song at this point with it's new pal The Asse Festival. I really like how the horns come in during this Bowie. I love all the silly quarky sounds they are making with their horns during the cymbal intro. Jesus Left Chicago is excellent. I really love this Funky Bitch and Frankenstein. Suzy didn't have quite the power that most have from this tour so it's kind of a dull bookend to this set.

Overall a fairly average '91 show.

thelot Another fantastic digital audience recording for this tour.

Golgi closed out last nights show accompanied by the GCH and opened tonight’s show with Golgi sans the GCH. The start of Golgi is clipped on this recording. They follow this up with a standard Chalk Dust. Buried Alive transitions nicely out of Page’s Coil solo. The GCH join in for Buried Alive. Split Open was pretty straightforward for this tour but has an odd pause in the ‘Steam Dream’ section. The first Tela of the tour makes an appearance. Some noticeable rust present in sections. A solid YEM closes out the first half.

Set 2 opens with a fiery Possum. Cool opening segment to Bowie with some teasing of The Asse Festival and the GCH teasing a number of songs. Killer little jam segment. The first Jesus Left of the tour provided a nice cool down. MSO seemed more up tempo than usual. First Funky Bitch of the tour rips with the GCH! Trey doesn’t introduce Fish for his vac solo in I Didn’t Know. After Fish’s solo Trey announces “Carl Gerhard on the vacuum cleaner ladies and gentlemen!” Inspired Suzy set closer with Trey saying “Have you seen juniors grades?” once again. At the start of the encore Fish asks the audience if they want some rock and roll. He says this once again during the opening to Contact. The audience gets some rock and roll during this super silly BBFCFM to end the show!
