Soundcheck: Sweet Adeline, Carolina, Sweet Adeline (many times)

SET 1: Sweet Adeline, Chalk Dust Torture, Bouncing Around the Room, Divided Sky, Fluffhead, Uncle Pen, Maze, Glide > Vacuum Solo > Glide, Possum[1]

This show was part of the H.O.R.D.E. tour that also featured Aquarium Rescue Unit, Blues Traveler, The Spin Doctors and Widespread Panic. Unlike other H.O.R.D.E. shows, Phish headlined. The band took the stage wearing Papier-mâché costume masks, which they threw into the crowd after Adeline. Glide was dedicated to David Ullrich, a fan who had recently died of leukemia. Possum included Simpsons, Oom Pa Pa, and All Fall Down signals and a But Anyway tease.

desmondthefamilyberzerker Woke up this morning and was reminded by .net that today was my Phish-iversary. I really don't remember a whole lot except the entire day was a revelation to me. I hopped on the idea of this show shortly after discovering Blues Traveler's 'Travelers and Thieves' a few months prior and falling in love with it. I do remember seeing Phish and particularly remember the Adeline and Chalkdust opener, and Fish on the vacuum.

They definitely left an imprint on me more than any other band there. And I didnt even know who they were when I showed up.

Stumpy My Second Show.

To put some context around the HORDE shows: Either ARU or WSP opened, and the other was 2nd. I can't remember. Then Blues Traveler and Spin Doctors (gulp)! You have to remember that by this point in the summer of 92, SD was a serious MTV sensation and had one of the "songs" of the summer, so most of the people showing up to HORDE were there to see the pop sensation...

So then Phish comes out, gets a little weird and just does their thing. Musically, I can't remember too much about what was good or not, except that Maze and Page were the highlight of the set.

DollarBill Another one set adventure on the HORDE tour at Jones Beach. Their first time there. Audience recording this time including some tape wobble. Not a bad mix over all.

According to the show notes they came out with masks on which would explain the ghostly woos in the begining of the recording. Adeline is good. Chalkdust is rocking, pretty average for this time frame. A little monitor feedback leads us into another average Bouncing. Divided Sky is also loose in parts making it average but, a good jam. They just haven't locked in tonight. They sound nervous or something. Maybe Fluffhead will be better. Nope, still sloppy, and average but, a good jam at the end. Pen also has a tentative start and doesn't lock in either. Saved by Page and a ripping Maze! Great as usual, seriously saved the set. Unfortunately Trey, for the second show in a row, pulled himself out of tune during Maze. So Glide and Possum suffer a bit to my ears anyway. Glide features Fish doing a vac solo again like they've been doing before the last note. No time for HYHU's on the HORDE tour? Possum features so many antics in the intro that the start of the actual song suffers. Good jam except that Trey is out of tune.

No encore? Even though they headlined tonight? Oh well...

This set is a little forgetable except maybe Chalkdust and Maze. They really sounded nervous or shy or something tonight.
