DollarBill Wow that’s a lot of tape hiss! This is a nice one set benefit show and the playing is good overall, but its just really hard to hear because the signal to noise ratio is way out of proportion.

The Curtain sounded a little rusty to me and it’s been about a month for this one so I guess that’s about right. Bag was good, as was Mike’s entire Groove, though I think we lost Mike somewhere in Hydrogen. Weekapaug was rocking! Lizards is getting better each performance. In a Hole was cut at the beginning so we only get one verse and the jam for the last ever performance of this song and I still wonder why? It’s a good song akin to My Soul in style, maybe they should bring this one back? Golgi was ok; it had a few little off spots. After some announcements for the upcoming New Year’s Eve show Possum was very rocking but a bit sloppy at times.

Really nice set overall, I just wish the recording could’ve survived in better shape. I think this might have been four-star territory, but I’m only going with two because the recording is that bad and there is some sloppy playing in there too.

raygaylord92265 Yes l remember the show, short but tight. No smoking in city hall, but I think we did anyway. I had been seeing the band for several years and I was used to bars and parties. We went to Nectar's after the show it's close.
The recording may have been taped by Del, since it's local. The sound on this recording is typical for early Phish, it can be hard to get a great mix in the Contois. I have not listened to this one since I was there, and really appreciate being in the right place in the right time for jammy music.

Review by thelot

thelot The recording for this show is pretty poor. On a positive note the pitch is pretty spot on given the amount of cassette generations.

Great setlist flow for this one. Things start out with a nice Curtain>Bag pairing. The slow down of Bag into Lawn Boy worked nicely. Decent Mike’s Groove. There’s a tape flip after Lizards. Unfortunately, half of In a Hole is cut. Before the encore Trey thanks everyone for coming and puts out an invite to their first New Years Eve show in Boston. Door prizes and three different types of cuisine are some things that will be offered. Possum closed things out with another New Years plug from Trey at the end. Some house music plays before the recording fades out. Nice setlist but the performance is pretty straightforward for this tour.
