The Joneses were a Burlington contemporary of Phish in the mid-to-late ’80s. The bands frequently co-billed shows, and on at least three occasions, 12/11/86, 12/21/86 and 12/31/86, members of both bands combined to perform as “The Phones.” For the New Year’s Eve performance, they did this on only a few hours notice! Individual band members have appeared with Phish on other occasions, but the entire band did on April Fools Day, 1986. The bands switched off and each played two short sets, then got together to jam out “Not Fade Away” for the encore. Drummer Steven Drebber recalls more joint appearances on the other dates above. In addition to Drebber, the band included John Carlin (guitar), Rob Dasaro (keyboards), Mark Jensen (percussion), Tim “TJ” Johnston (guitar), Dan Pine (drums) and Jim Tasse (bass). Drebber, Dasaro, Tasse and others continue to perform as Doctor Jones. Trey sat in with them at a private party in Vermont on 7/6/02.
