Currently holding a rating of 3.571, I'd call this an underrated show. The first set is not a standout but you still get an AC/DC Bag and SOAM played with their characteristic '95 style fury and a delightful Squirming Coil closer. The Mike's Groove that anchors the second isn't as well known as the 12/1, 12/7, and 12/31 versions, but it's right up there with them in terms of quality. A true highlight of the tour. The material surrounding that show-stopping sequence is merely average by '95 standards but still makes for a really good second set.

SET 1: Poor Heart: Solid, very fast. >

AC/DC Bag: Let’s get this show on the road! This jam is completely smoked by all. >

Fast Enough for You: I am certain this is what Heaven will sound like.

Rift: Not technically perfect, but still rips. >

Prince Caspian: Intro is different. >

Sparkle: Lightning fast. >

Split Open and Melt: Smoking version! Not charted = act of treason. This one will leave even the crustiest vet shaking in their Birks.

Sweet Adeline: Standard.

The Squirming Coil: Outstanding. Perfect closer. Were the fans stomping on the bleachers after this one because that’s what it sounds like on the tapes.

SET 2: Wilson: LOL at the chess game commentary. “Fan: We got crushed. Fans: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! >

Theme From the Bottom: 5:11 Free tease. It’s brief but it’s there. The ending is a little tentative/sloppy – they don’t know quite when to stop or segue or whatever >

Scent of a Mule: Very, very cool crowd interaction during the duel, never heard anything like this before? The chanting type stuff from Mike is…interesting. >

Mike's Song: Loong first jam, almost 8 minutes. Second jam, Trey does NOT jump on the drum kit – hurrah! Some of his effects sound similar to those used in the Moma from 6.17.04 believe it or not. Big raucous lead chords from Trey around 11 even. At 14:00 things are mellowing out and getting spacey. This section is cathartic and ethereal. Incredible Phish right here folks. This is all-time greatness. For real, this is one of the most chill, ambient sections you will ever hear. Right here in fall 95. Epic, epic Phish. >

Life on Mars? This was the only time that LOM was featured after Mike’s. Let me be very clear, the way they wove Mike’s into this is some of the coolest stuff I have heard this band play. Page’s lyrics here are incredible “He's in the best selling show - Is there life on Mars?” I saw this at Clifford Ball and 2.15.03. And this version on tape was more meaningful in terms of the placement out of this Mike’s and how well this was played and vocalized. Sublime. >

Weekapaug Groove: Quite the funk breakdown around 7 minutes in. Busts back into rock out mode effortlessly at 8:37. Solid peak in the early tens into the conclusion.

Fee: Was thinking it was a little rare for it to be this deep in set 2, but looking back through ihoz – not so much – who knew?

While My Guitar Gently Weeps: Quite the raging beast!

ENCORE: Suzy Greenberg: The middle of this one with Page basically leading and Trey throwing rhythm licks in is fantastic.

Summary: SOAMelt, Mike’s (top shelf, all-timer), and Weekapaug all have replay value. You wouldn’t think they could even come close to what they threw down the night before – but – they really did. I have this show as a 3.8 out of 5 but feel that is low and .net has it at a 3.66 which is definitely low! This tour is just totally on fire.

In 1994 and 1995, Florida hosted an overwhelming number of hot Phish shows. This one is no exception, an example of a well-honed band hitting their stride mid-tour with an outstanding Mike's Groove that's highly underrated and overlooked.

Poor Heart>Bag is a really high energy show opener, with Bag building to a noisy climax that's pushed faster and faster by Fishman and Trey.

Melt has a reverb-drenched middle jam and a furious climax. You really can't go wrong with any Fall '95 version of Melt, and this one holds up well.

Second set: Wilson>Theme is solid but uneventful. Scent is fast-paced and high energy but it's the ensuing Mike's Groove that's worth seeking out. The Mikes jam wanders off into a beautiful spacey jam at 10 minutes or so, where it settles quietly for another five minutes of gorgeous, low-key exploration before Life on Mars pops out. This is the only Mike’s>Life on Mars>Weekapaugh ever played, and I think it works well in this context.

Weekapaugh is well-crafted with Trey using these short, fast wah-wah-esque licks that are very funky. It’s so sad to me to see how much of a shell of it's once glorious self Weekapaug is these days, when compared to its glory days of the mid 90s. Compare this version to any 3.0 version and you’ll be blown away.

The rest of the show is uneventful, another average-awesome night in the midst of one of the best tours of the band's career.

Being a Deadhead, this band was on my radar but I had not seen them while Jerry was alive. Shortly after he passed, I was not in the mood to see any music, whatsoever. I was basically crushed beyond words and in hard mourning for an extended amount of time. Someone asked if I wanted to go see "Phish" and I decided to give it a go. From the 1st song, it all sounded like harsh noise. It was hard to listen to, hard to like and hard to deal. I was clearly not over Jerry (and I still am not, even after 29+ years). But looking back, I have to say I had a pretty good 1st show! I remember Fast Enough, the intro to the 2nd set Wilson opener, Scent and While My Guitar. But my head wasn't really ready until a year later when I caught 10/31/96 (Remain In Light costume) from the 3rd row, directly in front of Trey. At THAT point, my head flipped and I realized they were the new REAL DEAL.
