This show isn't the greatest Phish show ever played, but it definitely is the best one in 1990 to this point. In a winter where the band was clearly not bothering to be particularly creative in the jamming portions of their songs, this hometown show perhaps spurred them to try some new things for the first time in a while.

The jamming in Weekapaug and SOAM is top notch and the Bowie does some unique, dark things that we simply don't hear very often in the early days of this band. I'd recommend them all, in addition to a hilarious (impromptu?) Roll Like a Canteloupe and Harpua. Everything else is paint-by-numbers-1990, but some of the songs are finally starting to round into form (Reba, My Sweet One), and that's interesting to hear as well. So, of all the shows before the big spring Colorado tour, I'd recommend this one the most. The entirety of the show might not be to everyone's taste, but the highlights are more than enough to make up for it. I give this one 4 stars.

My initial thoughts on much of this show were "teetering on the edge of a whacked-out DEG excursion, but still interesting jams." Upon a little further listening, the jams may not be as out there as I first thought. But interesting, yes. Definitely interesting versions of Possum, SOAMelt, and, of course, Roll Like a Cantaloupe. Good versions of Weekapaug, Ya Mar, and especially AC/DC Bag, which builds to a really good climax. Not so good versions of Squirming Coil and A Train, but an amusing Harpua with Purple Haze segment, and "Jimmy?" "Yes, dad?" "Hendrix?" "Yes, dad?" lyrics. An unfortunate fade-out during Bowie, but much of this show is worth a listen or two. I'll say 3 stars.

Like the first two nights of The Front, this source isn’t great. It sounds like there’s more than two cassette generations present on Source #1. Unfortunately, both sources suffer from pitch issues throughout. The levels are hot for Set 1 and from Sloth on in Set 2.

Surprisingly, they opened the evening with Contact. TMWSIY made another appearance on this three night run. Avenu pairs nicely with Reba. Unfortunately, only the first note of Reba is available. La Grange is completely missing. Mike’s Groove keeps the energy up. Sick version of Possum to close the first set!

Carolina cuts in to open the set. The first Roll like a Cantaloupe since 7/12/88 is up next. Another great version of Antelope. The return of Cantaloupe was the cherry on top! Nice transition from DaaM into A-Train. The levels brick wall at the start of Sloth. Strong Ya Mar tonight. This is followed up with a raging Split Open. Pretty straightforward version of Harpua. Nice version of Slave with a cool buildup during the jam. Another strong Bag tonight. Bowie picks up as Bag fades out. Bowie gets a little more experimental than it has so far this year. It doesn’t get too crazy , but this is a really nice version. Unfortunately, the jam fades out as they start to build towards the trill section. The Tela encore is missing as well. Strong second half tonight.
