spreaditround PHISH, FRIDAY 10/07/1994
STABLER ARENA, LEHIGH UNIVERSITY
Bethlehem, PA

SET 1:

My Friend, My Friend: Standard.

Julius: Standard.

Glide: Standard.

Poor Heart: Standard.

Divided Sky: Standard.

Guelah Papyrus: Standard, Trey let’s us know they have some new songs for us.

Stash: Solid. Has a two + minute section where they build tension nicely. Ending is a little sloppy or rushed or perhaps both.

Guyute: Debut! Some of Page’s parts sound a little different – not sure exactly which instrument he was on – maybe the Rhodes?

Golgi Apparatus: Standard.

SET 2:

Maze: Solid version and a great way to open up the set.

The Horse > Silent in the Morning:

Reba: I love the middle passage where they basically go Type II for a bit. Mike leads the way and sounds great. Then out of this section they actually take this one into minor chord territory, super cool! Back to normal Reba jamming at 9:23. That section was fantastic! From here this is an average Reba jam but would recommend this version for the interesting Type II section.

Wilson: The Paint it Black tease is not just from Trey but from Mike and Page as well. It’s cool! >

Scent of a Mule: Standard.

Tweezer: Cool and interesting jam especially the first few minutes of it. After that it tends to devolve into the typical Tweezer weirdness and odd time signatures that were normal for this time period.

Lifeboy: Ahhh, the old Tweezer / Lifeboy combo. Good stuff.

My Sweet One: Standard. >

Tweezer Reprise[2] - LOL, this one does in fact start off as Tweezer.

ENCORE:

Foreplay/Long Time[3] -- Fun debut.

Cavern: Standard.

Summary: Reba is different, and Tweezer is pretty cool, but otherwise this is very average for this tour. No big deal, it’s the tour opener. Would give this a 3.5/5.

Replay Value: Reba

[1] First performance of the completed Guyute.
[2] Started as Tweezer.
[3] Phish debut. Acoustic.

This show marked the first performance of the completed Guyute. Wilson contained a Paint It Black tease by Trey. Tweezer Reprise started as Tweezer. The Phish debut of Foreplay/Long Time was performed acoustic and included Fish on the "female washboard."
