RIVERPORT AMPHITHEATER
Maryland Heights, MO

SET 1:

Bathtub Gin: Exceptional, one of the best Phish jams not just of this song but any song. This one has sort of an inverted nature in that early on in the jam out comes the hose and is let loose on the fans for minutes on end. Once they play through that incredible stuff, they get into a long and funky jam that is very engaging. This funk fest just jams for days. One thing I love about this version is that it gets finished, they somehow manage to bring it all back around. It’s a masterpiece. They give it a good many false endings. Easy all timer and highly recommended.

Dog Log: Played for Paul, his favorite Phish song. Nice bust

Foam: Has some extra mustard, this one sounds great!

Fikus: Oof.

Farmhouse: Standard. >

Vultures[1] - Trey absolutely crushes this one, very impressive guitar work. Would recommend!

Glide: Wow nicely placed! What a completely unique setlist!

Birds of a Feather: Don’t let the time stamp fool you, check this one out. Yeah, it’s straightforward but Trey is a BEAST. He makes that ‘doc absolutely scream for mercy in a couple spots. Very cool

SET 2:

Buried Alive: This was the second to last time that this opened up the second set. First and only time that this tune has gotten jammed! This one really doesn’t even go type II until its about 8 minutes in. A couple of minutes after that Trey plays around with the original theme a couple of times and it seems like that might be it. No! This one gets very trippy, very fast. This goes on for a couple of minutes, then things get bluesy, then back to the spacy stuff. Then Fish hits the wood blocks and leads them into a debut. Wow!!! That was an absolute mind**** and then for it to segue into something they had never played before, and a bluegrass tune at that? Seriously, that will blow your stack given the right mindset when listening to this. Incredible. Easy all timer and highly recommended. ->

If You Need a Fool[2] - Fun little tune. The first of only three versions.

AC/DC Bag: This one smokes big time!!! >

The Lizards: Solid.

Tube: Nice and funky throughout with one consistent loop that drones away in the background. Love that. >

Kung: Standard. >

Run Like an Antelope[3] - Standard.

ENCORE:

Waste: Standard. >

Golgi Apparatus: Standard. >

Bittersweet Motel: Standard.

Summary: Two all timers and then another significant highlight in Vultures and a good supporting cast. This one feels like a 4.3/5 to me – Phish.net is a little higher on it than that as the current rating is Overall: 4.464/5 (220 ratings)

Replay Value: Bathtub Gin, Vultures, Buried Alive

[1] Debut of new arrangement.
[2] Phish debut.
[3] Fish on vacuum for portion of intro.

The usually short Buried Alive was jammed for almost fifteen minutes. This show featured the Phish debut of If You Need a Fool, as well as the debut of the new arrangement of Vultures. A portion of the intro to Antelope featured Fish on vacuum. Bathtub Gin from this gig was included as filler on Live Phish 17.
