This was my first experience with TAB. I barely got a ticket and made the hour and a half drive to Minneapolis after dipping out of class an hour early. Due to the show being sold out my friends could not attend and I ended up there solo. I was excited none the less. I don't listen to much TAB but I had watched a couple of sets on YouTube to have a general idea of what to expect. Trey did not disappoint.
The show opened with a hot Cayman Review. This was a song I was familiar with so I was excited to see it. Cayman Review was an excellent way to open the show. I was even more excited when they dropped into Gotta Jibboo for obvious Phishy reasons. Jibboo had some nice jamming taboot. The next highlight was Magilla. I'm pretty sure this song is played the same way every time, but I love a good jazz tune. Four songs in and it was definitely worth it already!Pulsing Days and Dark and Down were nicely jammed upon. Pigtail was exciting because I'd only heard the NYE '10 run version. The whole first set had been energetic with the typical Trey ballads scattered in. Night Speaks to a Woman was probably the highlight of the set. It had a lot of energy and a raging Trey solo. Push on through the Day was a good way to leave the first set on a high note.
Set II continued with the energy Set I left off at with Curlew's Call. Sand! Sand was just awesome, great jam. After Sand comes Land of Nod. LoN was very good with a Russian type vibe. Burlap Sack and Pumps was also nice. I was actually really excited about the Happy Birthday because it was my Grandfather's birthday and I thought there's no way they'd play it, but Happy Birthday Grandpa from Trey haha! Architect was played well, I'd only heard the Summer '13 versions so it was cool to see live. Bounce was interesting but I liked it. STUP was pretty cool and it led to a well played Clint Eastwood. Trey was literally playing every song I wanted to see at my first TAB show. After CE Trey stopped and talked to the crowd a bit, mentioning he hadn't played that room in 21 years. He also nodded to his band, mainly the drummer and keys saying if we like the Phish Tunes we had to thank those two members. When Trey listed off the Phish tunes a song he mentioned was First Tube. I thought it was funny because they hadn't played First Tube yet but shortly after Trey spoke they played it.
Waiting for the Encore some people in the crowd started chanting Wilson. When Trey returned someone on the rail handed him a Russel Wilson jersey. Trey stood behind his acoustic and joked that he would change the lyrics in Wilson to "Peterson" so that the Vikings could win a Super Bowl. Then the icing on the cake to a wonderful show. An Acoustic Heavy Things and a raging Black Dog.
I've listed most of the songs I remember, I'm not much of a ballad guy so I apologize for not detailing some of the ballads. One song I didn't mention because I don't know the name of was a Spanish song that included rapping by Natalie "Chainsaw" Cressman. Damn. that was cool! All in all I thought the show was great!
