Review by FlaxBandit

FlaxBandit Summer 2000 had a couple themes and one of them was quality Bathtub Gins. Clearly the Holmdel Gin was the monster of the summer, but this version hints at what some of the subsequent versions would really solidify. The approach from Trey is really what you will hear that stands out in these Gins.
The other jam highlight has to be Rock and Roll to open the second set. They absolutely turn this song inside out if that makes any sense. By around 9 minutes it starts to become dissonant for a couple minutes but at about 11:30 the jam turns inside out. Absolutely wicked transition into a trancy sort of groove. This isn't the greatest jam ever, but the way this jam transforms is classic Phish and to me really has a sound that I'll always associate with that initial post-Cypress sound.

For summer 2000 this was a good but not great show. There was no madness or wackiness on stage or with the crowd, but RnR had that one moment of channeled improv that I attend shows for, and you cannot walk away from a Contact>Makisupa without a smile. Worth hearing that RnR jam and if you like things like comparing the themes throughout a tour, the Gin is a must for that reason.
