This was my very first Phish show and also my first time going the infamous Stone Church. My brother and sister were up visiting me at UNH and we headed to Newmarket for the night because some friends told me there was a really cool band I should check out. I walked in the door just as they started playing "Good Times Bad Times". I was hooked, the band, the bar! I moved to Newmarket the next year so I could go to the Stone Church more, and of course, I got hooked on Phish. I knew it was something special right from the first note....The whole thing just blew me away, had never heard or seen anything quite like it...Standing inches from the stage watching these guys that kind of looked like freaks just ripping it up...people were just freaking out everywhere around me...I was just amazed by the whole scene and was wondering.... who is this guitarist and why is he drooling all over himself....

The David Bowie here is pretty hot, and the Bold As Love is solid, but the highlight for me is definitely Mr. PC with Gears and Russ. Very cool. Fairly average beyond that, with a straightforward Mike's Groove (although the Hydrogen is played at warp speed and is very well executed). Actually, the Whipping Post is...well, I can't decide how I feel about the Whipping Post. The first jam section is kind of D.E.G. wonky, and the second jam section has kind of a Piper At The Gates of Dawn, this-acid-isn't-treating-me-well kind of feel to it. But overall, an enjoyable show (at least what is available of it). 3 Stars.

Not much to review with this one as only a small portion of the show circulates. The SBD source leaves a lot to be desired as there is multiple cassette generations in it’s lineage. I listened to this one through the Relisten app, I’ll have to see if I have the audience recording on my hard drive to compare sound quality.

A few notes…The Bowie to close Set 1 is decent. The very end of Weekapaug was reworked again to it’s current format. The Mr. PC was great! Obviously more cohesive than what we heard in Telluride. The second jam in Whipping Post was short but very cool. Almost reminded me of some of the ambient stuff they’d later get into.
