Review by olfactory_Splooge

olfactory_Splooge First time reviewer. Can't wait to take a beating for my opinions!! I was in Mexico under that full moon standing at what I deemed Palm Tree #1 just past the sound board on the Rage side.

YEM opens the show. It's YEMexico. Nothing special. Turtle In The Clouds is a super jam in training. There were obvious new flourishes and the crowd went nuts for it as I am sure for most it was their form time. Who doesn't like 46 days (assholes that's who). NMINML Is kind of standard. I hear teases of things I can't place as mike steps to the front mid way though. The moon makes its grand entry for the evening low on the horizon. Palm Tree #1 gets the full CK5 treatment. Trey half assses a chorus and then we get kinda spooky until page brings out all his post BD laser noises which fade into a non novelty version of Emotional Rescue. And then the fucking TUBE!!!! Its fire. It was fire there, its fire in the tapes. its fire. I ate Mexican Corn on the Cobb during Shade and quite honestly really enjoyed this version. Saw It Again.... I have now Seen It Again.

The next 40 min were sick as fuck. You have the recordings. Set Your Soul free moves though its motivation poster lyrics and then fucking rages right into the best Mercury to date. This song has really grown on me and I suppose they had to practice it for NYE. The now standard jam after the composition is 3.0 bliss goodness. In an era where most of the new lyrics kind irk me.... this one does me good. Must hear if you like the small planet. Then we get a weak slave. not horrible just weak. The rest of this show is just good time but nothing special. More as a one song encore is a thing of evil. Make it stop.

A solid phish show but my least fave of the three. Tube and Mercury are must hear stuff and like I said before you can hear the beginnings of the 25 min Turtle In The Clouds making their way out.

Review by yEEt_1331

yEEt_1331 I was in the comfy confines of my home watching the epic that was this show. I didn't like the struggle to get a jam going in "No Men", but I instantly forgave when they dropped into "Emotional Rescue". Being a fifteen-year-old (I first listened to Phish in 2007, during the breakup), I didn't think I'd ever get a live "Rescue", whether being there or watching the webcast. That was awesome. "Set Your Soul Free" doesn't have the greatest lyrics in the world, but they're bright, positive, and fun. The jam was among the best of anything I've heard, and I've listened to the Hampton/Winston-Salem '97 box set tens of times over. It was that good. Not quite for the "Mercury", but both were nonetheless amazing. If they come out this summer jamming like they did this in Mexico and pretty much all of last year, there's no doubt 2019 will be up in the sky with legendary timestamps like the early 90's, summer and fall 1997, Big Cypress, summer 2003, fall 2013, summer 2015, the Baker's Dozen (of which I attended nights 8-11), and summer 2018.

Review by JezmundTheFamilyBeserker96

JezmundTheFamilyBeserker96 Set 1 Highlights: You Enjoy Myself, No Men in No Man's Land, Tube (Standout Version)

Set 2 Highlights: Set Your Soul Free* > Mercury* > Slave to the Traffic Light > Possum (Standout Segment, * Standout Jam)

Last night's Dinner and a Movie started out with YEM, the first YEM opener of 3.0. Aside from a few hiccups in the song portion, this version is pretty strong by 3.0 standards and features a solid Trey solo. Turtle in the Clouds and 46 Days follow before giving rise to No Men in No Man's Land. This version has a nice in the box jam before returning to the chorus. Following the "ending" of the song, Mike and Trey lead the band into a dark effects heavy space before hilariously transitioning into Emotional Rescue. The Tube that follows is a very strong rendition and is must hear material, another strong example of Tube's renaissance. Shade and Saw It Again close out the first set *shrugs*. Now this second set...this second set is the absolute balls. Listen to all of it, then listen to it again, and just to be safe, listen to it one more time. The first 50 (!!!) minutes of the set are divided across what I consider to be the two canonical versions of Set Your Soul Free and Mercury. My words won't do these jams justice so I'll just leave it at, please, do yourself a favor and check them out. A mid-set Slave drops next, my favorite spot for the song, and is a pretty, sparkling version that ultimately drops into Possum. The set finishes out in perfect fashion with Sanity, complete with Trey hilariously looking to Page for guidance on how to play it following him calling the song and realizing he doesn't know it, and Walk Away. After all of that preceding insanity, More is a nice way to send everyone home.
