No Good Trying made its Phish debut at this show. The YEM vocal jam included Walk on the Wild Side teases. Alumni was dedicated to “all the graduating seniors.” The Bowie intro contained a Mo' Better Blues tease by Trey. The soundcheck's first Asse Festival was sung by Mike only with improvised lyrics and was followed by Fish singing a bit of No Good Trying. The Pendulum Jam featured a Low Rider tease from Page.

(Published in the second edition of The Phish Companion...)This is my favorite early show. It's actually the only time I ever showed up ticketless. And after asking a few folks, some guy decided he didn't feel like going in, so he sold me his ticket.
A very solid first set with my first Stash and a nice Jim, and Foam. But what makes this show for me is the Llama that closes the set. I love to hear Mike go as nuts as he does in this Llama. It is a must-hear. Mike is just slapping like mad. Marley was working security out front and I hung with her for the set break.
Second set is another killer, featuring Fish with a diaper on his head, opening with “Mike's” > “Hydrogen” > “Groove”, a jazz interlude with Donna Lee, followed by “Caravan”, the still relatively new “Tweezer”, a Syd Barrett debut (“No Good Trying”), a killer “Bowie”, and an “Alumni” encore. It's hard to match a show like that.

Ok audience recording available for this show. Sounds like there’s a handful of cassette generations in it’s lineage. Reelife Productions uploaded some pre-show footage on YouTube of the band showing up for the gig and their soundcheck performance of The Pendulum. They performed in a small gymnasium that night and reportedly sold 700-800 tickets.
The show kicks off with Golgi. Solid version of Stash with more Buried Alive teasing which has become the norm recently. Landlady and YEM were both well played. There’s a tape flip before Jim. Strong version of Foam. Llama slays once again to wrap up set 1.
Set 2 kicks off with Mike’s Groove. Groove absolutely rips! Donna Lee provides a nice cool down. Tweezer has a nice demented jam! Good stuff! There’s a tape flip before Oh Kee Pa. The hardest man in show business forgot his violin tonight, so he has to settle for his vacuum cleaner again! lol Fun debut version of Syd Barrett’s ‘No Good Trying’. An intriguing Bowie closes out set 2. Before the encore Trey said he promised his friend Jessica that they’d play Alumni for the graduating seniors.
Good show. Hopefully Reelife Productions gets more footage from this night into circulation!

The best show ever!! No doubt about it.
This is the only show Ive ever been to that I didnt have a ticket for. I stood outside asking for extras and someone said.."sure... actually, I dont feel like going in tonight." FOOL!!! He missed the best show ever. The first set was great... Stash was awesome as was the Landlady (another new song, along with Stash) and the YEM. Jim -> Foam was anoterh pleaser. But the killer to this show is the first set closer. LLAMA!! Best Llama ever. (rivaling 10/18/94, of course). It was just so fast and so funky. Mike was slapping like a madman. It was so good. At setbreak went outside for a smoke and hung with Marley for a bit. What a sweet dog. She was still doing security back then.
Second set opened with Mike's -> Groove (my 5th straoght show seeing it.. no complaints). Donna Lee (my 2nd in as many shows) and Caravan (saw it 2 shows before) followed for a nice jazz break, then a monster Tweezer in classic old school Tweezer style. Near the end of the set.. Fish breaks a new Syd tune, the rarely done "It's No Good trying." Classic.
And the encore.....!!!!!!
Alumni -> Jimmy Page. Hot.. so hot.
So there you have the best show ever!!!
