Leading into Friday night, we fans threw paper (show tickets, boarding passes, cash, rental car contracts, etc.). Mother nature played the scissors of unpredictable events outside of human control. To bring balance to the cosmic order, Phish had only one move: Play rock.

The band delivered with the best set of the summer, perhaps the best single set of Phish music since Jam-filled July 25, 2017.

The single set came in at just under two hours, included only two commas bracketing Reba, and offered one classic tune after another--a gauntlet-throwdown-raging Carini, the once-a-decade Dick's YEM, a deep Ghost, a lively Julius, a tight Reba, a 10-minute Tube, a monstrous Tweezer, a brilliant What's the Use?, an energetic Weekapaug, the singular 3.0 nod of NMINML, a totally unexpected yet perfectly placed Moonage Daydream, and a Chalkdust Torture closer that Character Zero wishes it could be.

If we dumped all Phish fans into a cauldron, melted them down, and re-formed them into a single consciousness, then asked that entity to assemble a perfect set, 09-02-2022 is what would emerge.

For anyone who ever wondered whether missing a third of a show would be worth seeing a single epic set, Phish answered definitively. We'll be talking about this one for a long time.

Couch toured from the east coast. I didn't know if this show was going to happen but I was going to wait and find out. They came on around Midnight and didn't stop till 2:15 am. Honestly, this may have been one set but this would satisfy me any night at a Phish show.

Carini thru tube was one of the hottest hours of Phish this year - and then out came the Tweezer into What's the Use. Glad I stayed up. Moonage Daydream thrown in there and the rare Pebbles and Marbles encore.

This is a great show to listen to if you haven't yet.

I was supposed to be at all 4 nights this year. My birthday is sep 6th so I try to take the journey to Denver for my bday week for dicks but work had a different plan for me. Due to how Late show came on I fell asleep because I had to be at work at 6am Saturday morning in Michigan. And when I woke up to see what is quite possibly the best phish set this summer my mind was blown. From the carini with trey changing lyrics to “at least he had some boots” in reference to the streaker that went across the field at Dicks pre show, to the cooking tweezer and the peb’s & marb’s encore that’s quite a rarity!! So good. So good. So food. I’m now feeling the fomo and wishing I was there raging with the crew. But this show is an amazing listen or watch anytime. And I’d also be happy with this show any day! Go PHISH! Way to make a bad situation not only good but, STUPENDOUS!!!! ⭕️⭕️⭕️⭕️

This is the show that rekindled my love for Phish.

The 3 hour drive to my first Dick’s show was intense with anticipation. My work for over 10 years made it not possible to travel over Labor Day Weekend. Having not seen Phish since 2009, I was so ready and excited to see them again. My friend and I got in line early to grab a good spot on the floor, so almost 5 hours of waiting as it got close to 8pm. The disappointment began when the crew started covering all the equipment and lowering down all the speakers. The voice coming through the PA said, “Please leave the stadium and go back to your cars and wait.” Well, almost no one went to their cars but took cover in the stands as the rain started. High winds and rain made it look like this night was NOT going to happen. Then, after a couple of hours, the rain started to let up and everyone rushed back down on the field. Maybe 20 minutes later the band appeared.

This night was much like a Phish song, tension and release. Lots of tension during the storm, lots of emotions, disappointment, and then the release:
The first notes of Carini. “That naked Dude.”
The “BOY” in YEM.
We all were getting what we came for. After not knowing if this was going to happen or not.
Ghost- the funk
Julius- the classics just kept coming.
Reba -my god Reba. Trey’s soloing during the quiet part of Reba was it for me. This was the Phish I loved.
Tube – 10 min.
Tweezer!
Weekapaug- great energy in the crowd;
And ended the set with a rocking Chalk Dust.WOW!
A surprising Pebbles and Marbles for the encore was perfect.
Amazing party after the show in the parking lot. After this show, I’m seeing Phish whenever possible for as long as they are still playing.

This show made me question the standard two set layout for shows. If this is how they are going to play just give it to us straight and uninterrupted!! Carini gets to a nice major key section. YEM has a nice little post-vocal-jam Jam that gives us a buttery smooth ->Ghost. Ghost is short but WOW do they get there with this one. Reba is extremely well played in my opinion and features some of the best soloing from trey I've heard live just when the jam seems to be building they stop very abruptly. Tube, like ghost, also gets to he a great place in such a short time. Tweezer Unbound could have gone all night and I would not have complained, really epic feeling jam using the ending destiny unbound theme. Rest of the show is pretty standard but Trey is just ripping it so hard through every song it was a pleasure to see. Pebbles encore is nice, I've now seen both of the encore versions! Overall really strong show for flow and song selection to make up for the rain delay.

SET 1: Carini: Nothing's Gonna Stop Us starts at 5:08 and cracks me up, that is hilarious. Extremely upbeat, major chord – bliss jam. Smokes >

You Enjoy Myself: Wow, nice. Obviously, they understand the significance of the rain delay and all the crap that everyone had to go through to get to this moment. Bit sloppy from jump street. Trey ripped it for a minute or two ->

Ghost: Smoked. Short. >

Julius: Trey, buddy; ya gotta stop singing all weird. Standard Julius.

Reba: Good Reba, though Trey seemed to stop short when it seemed he was going to go for a big peak?

Tube: Bliss jam? C’mon guys. Be better. >

Tweezer: Kind of old school in the first ten minutes in that they keep messing with one theme - Streets of Cairo stuff just keeps going and going. Doesn’t really bust out of that until about ten and half minutes in. Then it goes, yes you guessed it, major chord/bliss. The ending did have some aimless noodling reminiscent of early 3.0 whale stuff though if you are into that ->

Weekapaug Groove: Just strange to me playing this outside of a Mike’s Groove, Neutered if you will. Trey ripchords the rug out from under Page… ->

Moonage Daydream: Nice! Trey’s voice lessons paying off and then he RIPS the solo. >

Chalk Dust Torture: At this point they are obviously running out of time but want to give the fans another big gun and do there best to rip it.

ENCORE: Pebbles and Marbles: Cool encore, only the second one ever. Nice treat and nod.

Tweezer Reprise: Good, ol’ Tweeprise.

Summary: For much of the summer the band seemed to throw away the crutch of major chord/bliss jamming. This show though they just beat that dead horse like mad. It’s a shame, really. Look, it’s cool that they threw down a bunch of old school tunes. I get it. This show has some serious attendance bias, more so than most shows out there as a result of the rain delay and whatnot. My favorite part of this show is Moonage Daydream. On paper, it's a sexy beast. When you truly dig into it, it is not. They did the best they could with the situation they found themselves in. I would score this a 3.75 out of 5.

Agree with the comments that the band really did make the best of a shitty situation. But there isn’t anything that I would come back and listen to here. Safest bet of the day (a day of many bets on week one NCAA), is a huge redemption tonight and tomorrow. Can’t really take reviews for this show being 4.5 stars seriously. Sadly the star review system losing all credibility there. A 2 hour phish set in 2022 cannot have a higher rating than shows from fall 96>99. That’s just silly guys. Can’t wait for tonight. Cheers.
